Shelburne Bay Park: After work, on days of no work, a place to rest, a place to sleep, a place to eat. A place to meet SB. But “The Hours” DVD was quite a suspicious find along the lake-side path. Michael Cunningham? In Vermont?
Mills River: Refuge, respite, after work, days when there was no work, a place to rest, a place of peace, a place of fresh air, a place to sleep,a knoll, a place alone… alone.
Huntington Gorge: I’d found it on my own… driving alone, because I HAD to escape. It became a place to swim, in spite of all the warnings. I have a heart-shaped stone from the river-bottom, and a dollar bill, also from the river-bottom. I have wonderful memories. Afternoons with SB… two strangers in a strange place. But so much pleasure.
Hinesburgh: The Pond Road… the long and peaceful drive to work in the morning. Leaving early from the house in Jericho, listening to the radio, just enjoying the beauty of the early morning, the peace, the solitude, the fresh air.
East Woods: The escape and refuge on days when work finished too early. Long walks through the hemlock. The scent of old hemlock wood and needles and the tannic acid rising from the damp ground. The cool, fresh breezes… alone.
Bakersfield: The new commute from where I call “HOME”. How my Life has changed! How WONDERFUL! No longer escaping, but now, just really enjoying the travel through some of the most magnificent country-side… again.
